Angela Renee
The 80’s formed many of Angela’s lifelong loves and traditions: outdoor adventures such as camping, skating, biking, and skiing; trips to the Erie County Fair each summer or Condrell’s when good report cards came in; and a love for all animals (that aren’t trying to kill you)!
Angela went back to school in her 30s and earned a bachelor of science in English education with a cumulative GPA of 3.97, while raising two teenagers with Brett. She was on the dean’s list every semester and a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the international education honor society. She received a number of scholarships and was admitted to the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program. On campus, she helped to establish a chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society, and served as its president. She received the Buffalo State President’s Medal, the SUNY Chancellor’s Award, and gave the Commencement Address to the class of 2010.
In 2011, Angela was diagnosed with a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor. GIST is a rare type of cancer that originates in the connective tissues of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. She had surgery at Roswell Park to remove the tumor, and began a targeted chemo treatment. She used her experience as a teaching moment about cancer for her students in the future.
Angela started her new career as Tapestry’s high school librarian, before transitioning over to teaching English full time. Finally in her dream job, she found joy and fulfillment that no other work had ever been able to provide. Her room became a safe space to hang out, and she became the “school mom” to many. She ran the yearbook, was the school photographer, and ran the bowling and anime clubs. Many of her “kids” demanded a “Lambrix selfie” with her and would send her a Facebook friend request as soon as they crossed the graduation stage, and kept up with her for years after leaving Tap. They were crew.
Taking “school mom” to a new level, Angela and Brett asked Scheem if he wanted to join our family when he turned 18. There’s been no one better to join Ang in her antics and shenanigans since, wether it’s an adventure fishing or hiking outdoors, hitting estate sales, or just being silly. And, when things got tough, he’s been there to help.
While she was no longer to maintain her dream job teaching, Angela nevertheless believed in living life to its fullest. She embraced traveling when she could, whether it was a mile away to continue her lifelong trips to the Fair with her mother, to Disney World as Gigi, or across the seas to Europe or her ancestral home in Puerto Rico.
Angela’s long battle with cancer ended on September 13, 2025. To all who knew her, you would not be surprised that ‘Fuck’ was one of her last words. I leave you with her own message:
Friends and family… my job here is done. Don’t be sad for me… I’ve lived the best life, so happy and surrounded by so much love. Thank you all for letting me peek into your lives, and for sharing the highs and lows with me over the years. You’ve meant so very much to me. Please remember the things I treasured most with you: the shenanigans we had!
…and choose joy, know your worth, and be kind. I had fun… tell everyone❤
